What are a few of the conditions treatable by Registered Massage Therapy?
Fibromyalgia is a chronic medical condition that often causes widespread pain and stiffness, excessive fatigue, emotional distress and much more. The cause is unknown, and while this condition is not well-understood, patients with fibromyalgia exhibit a dysregulated nervous system and hypersensitivity to touch. Studies have shown that patients with Fibromyalgia symptoms have more sensory receptors in some areas throughout the body than those patients without Fibromyalgia symptoms. A registered massage therapist has several techniques, tools, and strategies to regulate the nervous system and desensitize the sensory receptors, thereby alleviating and managing Fibromyalgia symptoms.
Have you been diagnosed with fibromyalgia or suspect you may be suffering from the condition?
Do you suffer from chronic widespread body pain? Sleep disturbances? Excessive fatigue? Jaw or facial tenderness? Sensitivity to touch, light and sound? Depression?
Registered Massage Therapy can help regulate your nervous system. It can reduce your heart rate, relax your muscles, improve range of motion in your joints and increase production of your body’s natural painkillers. It also often helps reduce stress and anxiety.
Whiplash is a condition resulting from an acceleration deceleration transfer of energy to the neck and spine – in simple terms the cause is an intense, forceful back and forth motion of the neck, similar to the motion of cracking a whip. It is also referred to as a neck sprain or strain. It is characterized by symptoms that appear following neck injury. It is commonly caused from rear-end car accidents, but can also result from sports accidents and other types of trauma, such as physical abuse or a fall.
How do I know if I might have whiplash?
Have you recently had a neck jarring incident and are now experiencing symptoms that may include neck and back stiffness and pain, loss of range of motion in your neck, headaches originating from the bass of your skull, tingling in your arms, and/or dizziness?
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s possible you are suffering from whiplash. After checking in with your family doctor to get an accurate diagnosis, a visit to one of our Registered Massage Therapists will help you manage your symptoms and speed up your recovery. RMT treatment often helps decrease muscle spasms and pain that commonly occur with whiplash, restores range of motion, improves muscle strength and tone, reduces headaches, and improves neck spinal function.
Raynaud’s is a disorder that most commonly causes diminished blood flow to the fingers. It can also cause less blood flow to the ears, toes, nipples, knees, or nose. It is triggered by cold temperatures along with anxiety or stress.
How do I know if I have Raynaud’s?
Raynaud’s is quite common, and while it’s not a serious threat to health, it can be debilitating and annoying. When triggered by cold, anxiety, or stress, blood vessels go into a spasm, blocking blood flow and causing the affected area to turn white, then blue and finally red as the blood flow returns. While there is no cure for Raynaud’s it can be treated and managed – and Registered Massage Therapy can help.
Connective tissue manipulation can reduce both the frequency and duration of spasms in the hands and feet, and continued treatments have demonstrated a clear reduction in the symptoms of Raynaud’s.
